The Nationals announced after tonight's game that left-hander Tom Gorzelanny has been placed in the 15-day disabled list due to left elbow inflammation. The move is retroactive to May 24.
The Nationals did not announce a corresponding roster move. The announcement is expected early Saturday when the player arrives.
Gorzelanny was scheduled to start Sunday's afternoon finale against the Padres.
Syracuse right-hander Yunesky Maya was scheduled to start for the Chiefs on Sunday and could be the pitcher chosen to replace Gorzelanny on the roster.
Maya made five starts for the Nationals last season, going 0-3 with a 5.88 ERA. He had 12 strikeouts and 11 walks.
This season, Maya has made nine starts for Syracuse, going 1-4 with a 3.79 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 12 walks. Opponents are batting .214 against him.
