Guerrero gives Orioles early lead (Hardy and Jones build on it)

Vladimir Guerrero drove in the Orioles' final two runs last night, and he's produced their first run tonight. Guerrero's sacrifice fly off Tigers starter Jacob Turner scored J.J. Hardy in the top of the first inning and gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead. Hardy and Nick Markakis singled with one out and Guerrero flied to center field to provide an early lead for rookie left-hander Zach Britton. Guerrero has driven in seven runs in his last six games - including two in the eighth inning last night that broke a 4-4 tie in Boston. His 2,583 career hits leave him only three behind Julio Franco, the all-time Dominican leader. Meanwhile, the Orioles have confirmed that second baseman Ryan Adams will be examined in Philadelphia on Oct. 3 and could undergo surgery the following day for a sports hernia. Adams collected two hits in his last start, but the pain became too difficult to manage. Update: J. J. Hardy hit his 29th home run to increase the lead to 2-0 in the top of the third. Hardy has three homers in his last seven games. He was a career .216 hitter against the Tigers before going 2-for-2 tonight. Center fielder Adam Jones threw out Miguel Cabrera at the plate to deny the Tigers a run in the bottom of the second. Update II: Jones hit a two-run shot in the fourth inning, giving him 24 homers and 82 RBIs. Turner is out of the game with two runners on base and none out in the fourth. The Orioles are looking to build on their 4-0 lead. Hardy's next homer will give the Orioles two 30-homer players for fifth time in club history, and the first since Brady Anderson and Rafael Palmeiro in 1996. Update III: Nolan Reimold lifted a sacrifice fly off reliever Al Alburquerque in the fourth. Orioles 5, Tigers 0.
