Home runs paying off with wins for O's and cash for fans!

When the Orioles slugged seven home runs against the Red Sox on June 2, it not only led to a big win against their division rivals, but also provided big-time cash for the Maryland Lottery Contestant of the Game. Teressa Davies of Arbutus was selected as the Maryland Lottery Contestant of the Game, and watched on TV with high hopes and her family by her side.

"We were yelling so loud that our daughter went upstairs and our poor dog seemed a little scared," the state employee told lottery officials.

After all was said and done, Teressa's winnings totaled $4,000; she received $500 for being selected as the Contestant of the Game and $500 for each home run hit by an Orioles player. It was only the fifth time in Orioles franchise history that the Orioles have hit seven or more home runs in a game. Last year, the Orioles hit eight home runs on June 16, setting the franchise record.

After another four-home run game last night, the Orioles lead the majors with 87 home runs. Mark Trumbo leads the majors with 20 home runs and Manny Machado is not far behind with 15. Thanks to a power-laden lineup, the Maryland Lottery has awarded more than $70,000 in cash to Contestants of the Game.
