Injury updates from Camden Yards

Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman said his right shoulder feels much better today after he took an anti-inflammatory on Saturday.

"It feels like nothing ever happened," said Gausman, who went on the disabled list retroactive to May 7 with right shoulder tendinitis.

Team orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs is examining Gausman's shoulder this afternoon. Gausman will undergo an MRI Tuesday morning, but he's confident that there's nothing structurally wrong.

The Orioles must decide whether to send Gausman to Sarasota after the MRI or keep him with the team.

The Orioles are leaning toward inserting Gausman in Triple-A Norfolk's rotation to stretch him out as a stater. If it happens, he would replace left-hander Chris Jones, who took left-hander T.J. McFarland's spot.

Hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh threw early batting practice to Everth Cabrera, David Lough and Steve Pearce, offering instruction as well as the baseballs.

Cabrera, on the disabled list with a bruised left foot, said he felt "really good" while taking his swings in the cage. He's still expected to go on an injury rehab assignment Thursday at Double-A Bowie.

"He's moving around pretty good," said manager Buck Showalter.

Matt Wieters was off today and he remains scheduled to catch eight innings Tuesday at extended spring training and nine innings Thursday and Saturday.

Reliever Wesley Wright will throw off a mound this week while recovering from a left trapezius strain and he could join an affiliate on May 19 instead of pitching at extended spring training.

Second baseman Jonathan Schoop, on the DL with a sprained right knee, is jogging on a pool treadmill and the Orioles are hoping that he can begin baseball activities this week.

The Orioles have 17 of their next 20 games at home.

"You've still got to do a lot of things you've got to do home and away," Showalter said.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told reporters that Jose Bautista is available to pinch-hit tonight. He's being held out of tonight's lineup to speed up his return to right field. Also, Bautista is 2-for-29 lifetime against Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez.

Bautista is a career .194/.298/.379 hitter in 69 games at Camden Yards.
