Gregg has signed his contract, a two-year deal for $10 million that includes a vesting option for 2013. He's expected to get first crack at the closers job in spring training after recording 121 saves over the last four seasons.
Gregg's signing leaves the Orioles with 39 players on their 40-man roster.
I interviewed former Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz about Gregg, one of his favorites from their Florida Marlins days. You can read it here.
Gregg will be made available to the media tomorrow morning in a conference call.
The Orioles want to add another left-handed reliever before heading to Sarasota. The bullpen figures to include Gregg, Koji Uehara, Michael Gonzalez, Jim Johnson, Jeremy Accardo and Jason Berken. Besides the anticipated newcomer, other candidates should include Rick VandenHurk, Troy Patton, Pedro Viola and Rule 5 pick Adrian Rosario.
