Let's hear from Davis and Hunter

That's Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter, not Blake Davis and Jim Hunter. And not Geena Davis and Luke Scott, who's an avid hunter. Chris Davis discussed his shoulder injury that will require an MRI tomorrow. Apparently, it happened in the bedroom. Don't let your imaginations run wild. "It was just a few nights ago," he said. "I slept funny with my arm above my head, kind of just laying at a weird angle. I've done it before and it's been a little stiff for the next couple of days, but nothing to where I couldn't throw or swing or anything like that. So we'll see what happens tomorrow. It's felt better actually the last few hours after a couple rounds of stim and ice and some anti-inflammatory, so in all honesty I don't think it's that big of a deal. We were just playing it safe tonight and keeping me out of the lineup, maybe take a few days off to rest. Hopefully, they don't see anything tomorrow and maybe I can play tomorrow night. "Last night, I didn't feel like it was going to inhibit my performance or anything like that. I felt like I was a little stiff, a little tight throughout the game. You know, just took a little more to get loose, but nothing to where I couldn't play. Obviously, I played out the entire game. I was a little but more stiff and sore today. Just talking to the trainers a little bit, letting them know what was going on, and we're taking a look at it. So to be honest, I don't think it's anything too serious, and we're just taking every step to be cautious." Tommy Hunter didn't seem particularly thrilled with his performance tonight. He gave up four runs and eight hits in four innings.

"Two-out hits, 2-0 hits, 0-2 counts that went to 3-2. There was plenty of stuff. I just didn't throw well," he said. "Pitching's pitching. You've still got to throw strikes. I didn't get ahead, I didn't finish when I got ahead, and when I got behind, I gave up hits. There's really no excuses for it, and when they go out and give you two early runs like that, you've got to go out and get a couple goose eggs up there, and I didn't do that tonight." Is it a process to get back into a starter's routine in the majors? "No, it ain't no process," he replied. "There's no process about it. You've still got to go out and pitch. I'm not accepting it at all. It was a game where they go out and give you runs and you've got to put up zeroes, and I didn't do it tonight. It's just that simple." Hunter conceded that it's "totally different" going from relieving to starting. "I do like being a starter," he said. "Maybe I'll get more accustomed to it the next couple of starts, but it needs to start now, not later. "When you don't throw strikes, your pitch count gets up, you get behind in counts, you get fastball counts and guys hit it. You've got to put the blame where it should be, and that's on the guy that didn't throw strikes tonight." And he's not talking about Hunter Pence or Hunter S. Thompson. I'm tired. Time to pack up and go home.
