And so we have arrived at the final day of spring training. Six weeks just flew by, right?
The Nationals have one last exhibition to play today against the Astros, one final battle for Palm Beach, if you will. At this stage of the process, it's a whole lot of regulars playing, and both teams have prominent starters on the mound: Stephen Strasburg and Jake Odorizzi.
Strasburg has looked perfectly fine all spring, showing no ill effects of his carpal tunnel syndrome nor the ruptured calf tendon he suffered 15 days ago. (If that last sentence shocked you, I suggest you go back and read all about an injury that sounds way worse than it actually was.) He'll ramp up to close to 100 pitches today, and that will leave him more than ready to face the Mets for real this weekend at Nationals Park.
The Nats lineup is again missing both Juan Soto and Starlin Castro, and though manager Davey Martinez has expressed confidence both players will be fine for opening night, they're going to have to do it without having played much of the final week of March.
And once again you can watch it all live on MASN. Bob Carpenter and F.P. Santangelo are on site at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches for the spring finale and will be making their way north afterward in advance of opening night.
