Machado scratched from lineup, and other notes (updated)

Third baseman Manny Machado is a late scratch from the lineup tonight with lower-back tightness that cropped up during batting practice, according to the Orioles. Ryan Flaherty has replaced Machado at third base. Machado had his career-high 19-game on-base streak snapped last night. In his last 40 games since May 31, he's batting .307/.354/.523 to raise his season average from .210 to .267. Bud Norris gets hit on the foot by a comebacker last night. Zach Britton gets hit on the right arm. Now, Machado is removed from the lineup with a back issue. The Orioles want to win this three-game series, but they'd also like to get through it in one piece. The Angels haven't lost consecutive games since June 15-16. They lead the majors with a 28-11 record since June 6. The Angels are 14-4 this month, tied for best start to July in club history (2006). The Orioles lead the majors with 121 home runs this season and are on pace to hit 200. It would be the first time in franchise history that they strung together three consecutive seasons with 200 or more home runs. They've reached the mark in 1985, 1987, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2012 and 2013. Down on the farm, Dylan Bundy tossed six scoreless innings tonight for Single-A Frederick, holding Myrtle Beach to three hits in his best outing with the Keys. In his first three starts, Bundy allowed 12 runs and 15 hits in 11 2/3 innings. He hadn't gone more than 4 2/3 innings before reaching his limit of 75 pitches. Double-A Bowie's Eduardo Rodriguez allowed one unearned run and three hits over seven innings, with one walk and five strikeouts. He was denied the win after Harrisburg scored three runs in the ninth off Baysox closer Oliver Drake. Drake (Navy) is 23-for-26 in save opportunities this season. Mike Yastrzemski singled, tripled and scored a run for the Baysox. He's doing just fine at the Double-A level. Looks pretty much the same as he did at the low and advanced Single-A levels. Dariel Alvarez is 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored at Triple-A Norfolk, and Christian Walker is 1-for-4 with an RBI. Update: Miguel Gonzalez has held the Angels to two hits over five scoreless innings. He's thrown 63 pitches. Too bad the Orioles can't supply a lead. The game is scoreless heading into the sixth. In his last three start, Gonzalez has allowed three earned runs over 21 innings. Hector Santiago threw 99 pitches in five innings, but he also allowed only two hits.
