Martinson, Goodwin, Perry, Rendon and Walters notes and more

Potomac Nationals shortstop Jason Martinson is an RBI machine. Martinson collected his 100th RBI of the season Saturday in a 10-8 loss at Winston-Salem. Martinson hit his 21st homer of the season in the fourth and had an RBI single in the ninth, which was his 100th RBI of the season between two teams. Martinson started the season at low Single-A Hagerstown. Outfielder Steven Souza, Jr., has been placed on the disabled list with a leg injury after running into the outfield wall in pursuit of a fly ball. In Harrisburg, outfielder Brian Goodwin his his third homer of his Double-A campaign in a 1-0 win over Richmond. Goodwin is hitting .286 his last 10 games for the Senators and has a .432 on-base percenage. In the same game, right-hander Ryan Perry delivered another solid performance, going seven innings, scattering five hits with no runs, one walk and three strikeouts. He has tossed 13 scoreless frames and has a 1.54 ERA in his past nine starts. Pitching coach Paul Menhart said Perry had 11 groundouts and had a "good feel for all" of his pitches. Winning pitcher Pat McCoy and Hector Nelo tossed shutout eighth and ninth innings, respectively. For Syracuse, shortstop Zach Walters made his debut at Triple-A, going 1-for-4 with "good defense," according to a team source on hand. His base hit was a single on a low, outside sinker. In Brooklyn, Auburn's Anthony Rendon (ankle) went 0-for-4, but more importantly, got to play nine innings at third base. Rendon's 20-day rehab assignment expires this week, so I believe he will be returned to Potomac for their Aug. 10 home game. Nationals sources have told me, however, that geography does not play a role in where and when Rendon is activated.
