Marty Cordova's family tragedy

In a few hours, I'll be heading to Ocean Pines to visit my parents, sister and niece. We celebrate the holidays when we're able to gather together. The actual date is insignificant. It also happens when my father finishes shoveling more than a foot of snow from his driveway. Thanks, Dad! As I await the opportunity to feel the warm embrace of my loving family, and eat until I'm dizzy, I wanted to pass along a story that makes me appreciate these moments a little bit more, and also offers some much-needed perspective as we lament the Orioles' failure to sign a first baseman. Former Orioles outfielder Marty Cordova is going through every parent's worst nightmare. His 15-year-old daughter remains in a coma after being involved in a car accident while riding to school. Cordova remains at her bedside, praying for her recovery. I can't even imagine... Cordova played for the Orioles from 2002 to 2004. He was the American League's Rookie of the Year in 1995 with the Minnesota Twins. I wouldn't be surprised if the Orioles sign a free agent this week, or at least schedule a physical and alert the media. It often happens when I'm driving or I've made plans with family or friends. I should have done this weeks ago and saved us all a lot of aggravation. However, we're reminded again, in the saddest of terms, that it's not the worst thing in the world if a few more days pass without any activity from the warehouse.
