Minor league notes on Hill, Purke and Burns

High Single-A Potomac Nationals right-hander Taylor Hill has performed well in his last two starts, following his two roughest starts of the season. On back-to-back starts, May 24 and 29, Hill allowed a combined 20 hits and 14 runs in nine innings of work. But, on June 3 and 9, Hill rebounded to go 14 2/3 innings and gave up only one earned run. He struck out 12 and walked five in a pair of no decisions. The highlight of the two starts was Hill's 8 2/3 innings on June 3 at Myrtle Beach. The former Vanderbilt standout is 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA in 12 starts with one complete game, one shutout, and 49 strikes to 10 total walks. * Left-hander Matt Purke lost 6-2 to Single-A Hickory Tuesday, but was able to again strike out eight batters. The low Single-A Hagerstown southpaw went 4 2/3 innings, surrendering six hits, five runs, four earned runs, two homers, two walks and those eight strikeouts. He is 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA in three starts, but has 22 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings with four walks. * Potomac outfielder Billy Burns has hit .351 (13-for-37) with one triple and three RBI over the last 10 games. During the run, Burns had five straight multi-hit games from June 5 to June 9 where he went 11-for-21 (.524). During this 10-game stretch, Burns is 7-for-7 in stolen bases.
