Nationals New Year's resolutions

Some good things happened in 2017. Some bad things happened, too. No matter how you felt about the previous year, everyone can agree we all want to strive to be better in the new year.

That applies to the Nationals, as well. And so without further ado, here are the Nats' resolutions for 2018, which every member of the club was nice enough to share with me for publication (as far as you know) ...

BRYCE HARPER: No injuries of consequence in a contract year.

MICHAEL A. TAYLOR: Take nothing for granted despite entering spring training as the starting center fielder for the first time.

ADAM EATON: Good footwork around first base.

ANTHONY RENDON: Become the first player to win MVP without making anyone notice him.

trea-turner-stealing-white.jpgTREA TURNER: Enough plate appearances to make a run at 75 stolen bases.

DANIEL MURPHY: Don't rush knee surgery rehab. Be 100 percent by season's end, not beginning.

RYAN ZIMMERMAN: Whatever he did last year, do it again.

MATT WIETERS: Whatever he did last year, don't do it again.

MAX SCHERZER: Take care of the body every day, let the arm (and mind) do the rest.

STEPHEN STRASBURG: Don't give any doubters out there reason to dredge up old narratives.

GIO GONZALEZ: A quality start in the playoffs.

TANNER ROARK: A start in the playoffs.

SEAN DOOLITTLE: The occasional quality slider and changeup.

RYAN MADSON: The ability to do at 38 what he did at 37.

BRANDON KINTZLER: Unlimited trips to the National Zoo without fear of being traded while there.

JAYSON WERTH: A chance to help another contender win. And a chance to come back to Nationals Park as a visitor and get a standing ovation.

DAVE MARTINEZ: A controversy-free debut season in the dugout.

MIKE RIZZO: A contract extension from the Nationals before he has to try to convince Harper to sign one.

MARK ZUCKERMAN: To come up with a better shtick for my New Year's Day 2019 blog post.

Will new year inject some life into ice-cold free ...
