Nationals recall Adon

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Joan Adon from Triple-A Rochester and placed right-handed pitcher Mason Thompson on the 15-day Injured List with a left knee contusion (retroactive to August 2) on Saturday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Adon, 24, joins the Nationals for the second time this season after going 1-0 with a 3.24 ERA (4 ER/11.0 IP) with 13 strikeouts and five walks in his last two Triple-A starts. Those starts include a scoreless 6.0-inning outing in which he allowed just two hits and struck out six on July 21 against Durham (TBR). In all, Adon went 3-5 with a 4.62 ERA (45 ER/87.2 IP) with 80 strikeouts and 40 walks in 17 starts in Triple-A this season.

In two appearances for Washington this season, Adon is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. In his last game for the Nationals on July 16 at St. Louis he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing just two walks and striking out a pair.

Thompson, 25, is 3-4 with a 4.56 ERA with one save and 40 strikeouts in 42 games this season.
