Nationals recall Fedde, place Zimmerman on injured list

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde from Double-A Harrisburg and placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 10-day Injured List with Plantar Fasciitis in his right foot on Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. Fedde, 26, joins the Nationals after going 2-0 with a 2.66 ERA (7 ER/23.2 IP) in four starts for the Harrisburg Senators in 2019. He has struck out 25 batters against just four walks while holding opposing batters to a .202 average (18-for-89) along the way. His 25 strikeouts rank seventh in the Eastern League, while his 0.93 WHIP is good for 10th. In his last start on April 23 vs. Altoona (PIT), Fedde struck out 11 batters and did not issue a walk in 5.2 innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits as the Senators topped the Curve, 5-4. Fedde has appeared in 14 games - all starts - across two Major League seasons with the Nationals (2017-18). He is 2-5 with a 6.44 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 65.2 innings pitched. Zimmerman, 34, is hitting .213 with three doubles, three homers, 11 RBI, 10 walks and seven runs scored in 22 games this season.
