Nationals recall Tanner Roark

The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed pitcher Tanner Roark from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Roark, 28, returns to the Nationals starting rotation after making two Minor League starts for the Single-A Potomac Nationals and the Double-A Harrisburg Senators. He recorded a 1.50 ERA (1 ER/6.0 IP) while striking out seven and surrendering just five hits across the two starts.

On August 26 vs. Frederick (BAL), Roark struck out five batters in 4.0 innings of three-hit, shutout ball in Potomac's 10-0 win. He then allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work for Harrisburg on August 31 vs. Richmond (SFG).

Roark is 4-4 with four holds, one save and a 4.54 ERA in 34 games (six starts) this season. The versatile right-hander is career 26-15 with a 3.04 ERA since his MLB debut, August 7, 2013. In that span, Roark has started 42 games for the Nationals, going 21-12 with a 3.08 ERA. During his breakout season of 2014, Roark went 15-10 with a 2.85 ERA in 31 starts for Washington.
