The Washington Nationals reinstated right-handed pitcher Joe Ross from the 10-day Injured List and optioned outfielder Yadiel Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester on Monday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Ross, 28, went 5-8 with a 4.02 ERA in 16 starts prior to being placed on the Injured List with right elbow inflammation on July 8. His 16 starts to date are his most since starting 19 games during the 2016 season.
In six starts dating to June 5, Ross posted a 2.31 ERA (10 ER/39.0 IP) with 44 strikeouts and six walks in six starts. He allowed zero earned runs in three of the six starts. On July 4 vs. Los Angeles (NL), he struck out a season-high 11 batters in 6.2 innings of work.
Hernandez, 33, hit .253 with one double, two homers, six RBI, seven walks and 11 runs scored in 57 games in 2021.
