Nationals select infielder Adrian Sanchez

The Washington Nationals selected the contract of infielder Adrian Sanchez from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, placed shortstop Trea Turner on the 10-day disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of his right wrist, and transferred left-handed pitcher Sammy Solis to the 60-day disabled list. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
This is the first Major League assignment of Sanchez's career, the culmination of 10 years in the Nationals' organization. Sanchez, 26, signed with the Nationals as a 16-year-old non-drafted free agent in January, 2007. His ascension through Washington's system has been steady, as he has made at least two stops at each level, beginning with the Dominican Summer League Nationals.
A slick-fielding infielder, Sanchez can play three infield positions: second base, third base and shortstop, and can also play the outfield. Earning his Major League call-up out of Triple-A, Sanchez has played in 914 Minor League games - 486 at second base, 223 at third, 163 at shortstop and eight in the outfield.
A native of Maracaibo, Ven., Sanchez joins infielder Wilmer Difo as homegrown products of the Nationals' International Scouting Operations in Latin America on the Major League roster.
Turner, 24, was hit with a pitch on the wrist in Thursday's contest vs. Chicago. The fleet-footed infielder leads the Major Leagues in stolen bases with 35 and ranks fourth among all National League shortstops in average (.279) and slugging percentage (.422), fifth in on-base percentage (.324) and home runs (7), and tied for second in triples (4).
Solis, 28, has been on the disabled list since April 19 with left elbow inflammation. He has missed 64 games with the injury. Currently on rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse, Solis has appeared in seven games (6.2 IP) and worked to an 8.10 ERA.
