Nats agree to terms with 23 players from First-Year Player Draft

The Nationals announced this afternoon that they have agreed to terms with 23 players selected in the recent First-Year Player Draft, including first-round selection Carter Kieboom, the 28th overall pick in the first round. Kieboom, an 18-year-old shortstop out of Walton (Ga.) High School who had committed to Clemson, will begin his career in the Nats' Rookie-level Gulf Coast League affiliate in Viera, Fla.

Nats-Cap-Spring-Sidebar.jpgKieboom was considered one of the top prep hitters available in the draft, and hit .366 with nine doubles, two triples, five home runs, 37 RBIs, 24 walks, seven stolen bases and 39 runs scored this spring. He posted a .504 on-base percentage and a .644 slugging percentage in his senior season at the Marietta, Ga., high school. Kieboom is the brother of Nats farmhand Spencer Kieboom, a catcher currently playing at Double-A Harrisburg.

The Nationals have come to terms with nine of their first 11 picks in the draft's first 10 rounds, including second-round pick Sheldon Neuse, a third baseman out of Oklahoma; third-round selection Jesus Luzardo, a left-hander from Stoneman Douglas (Fla.) High School; fifth-round choice Daniel Johnson, an outfielder from New Mexico State; sixth-rounder Tres Barrera, a catcher from Texas-Austin; seventh-round pick Jason Noll, a second baseman from Florida Gulf Coast; eighth-round selection A.J. Bogucki, a right-hander from North Carolina-Chapel Hill; ninth-round choice Joseph Harris, a catcher from Gonzaga; and 10th-round pick Paul Panaccione, a shortstop out of Grand Canyon.

Washington's second first-round pick, 29th overall selection Dane Dunning, is a right-hander currently pitching for Florida in the College World Series.
