Nats lose game, probably lose Werth

The sweep was not to be. Unfortunately for the Nationals, tonight's series finale against the Phillies might not be the only thing they lost. Washington fell to the rival Phillies 9-3 tonight, preventing the team from winning its fifth straight game. But the injury to Jayson Werth, who looked to hurt his left wrist while diving for a ball in the sixth inning, is the bigger story. The Nats might be without their $126 million man for a while, providing another blow to an offense which is without a few key contributors and has struggled through much of the team's first 28 games. The healthy Nationals hitters were dominated tonight by Phillies starter Cole Hamels, who threw eight exceptional innings, allowing just one run and five hits. The lefty walked one and struck out eight. Jordan Zimmermann didn't have his good stuff tonight, as he went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked four (a ton for the normally pinpoint-accurate hurler) and struck out just one. Bryce Harper was the lone offensive highlight for Washington, as the rookie stole home in the first inning and turned a looper over the shortstop's head into a double with pure hustle. Outside of the performance by the 19-year-old, however, little was positive about tonight's game for the home team.
