Highly touted prospect Trea Turner will be in uniform for the Nationals when they open a three-game series with the Brewers tonight. The Nationals selected the contract of the 22-year-old shortstop from Triple-A Syracuse earlier this afternoon.
Turner slashed .314/.353/.431 with seven doubles, three triples, three homers, 14 stolen bases and 15 RBIs in 48 games since being promoted to Syracuse on June 26.
The speedy infielder was acquired from the Padres as part of a three-team trade last December that also netted the Nats rookie right-hander Joe Ross.
After officially joining the Nationals organization on June 14 - he was a player to be named until the one-year anniversary of signing his first pro contract - Turner batted .359 with four doubles, one triple, four RBIs and four stolen bases in 10 games with Double-A Harrisburg. He was promoted to Syracuse, where he slashed .314/.353/.431 with three homers, 15 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 48 games.
Turner was originally selected 13th overall by the Padres in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. Along with right-hander Lucas Giolito, Turner represented the Nationals in the All-Star Futures Game in July in Cincinnati, going 2-for-2 with a double, triple and two RBIs.
The Nationals placed Tyler Moore on the 15-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain to make room on the 25-man roster and transferred right-hander Aaron Barrett (right elbow sprain) to the 60-day DL to open up a spot on the 40-man roster.
