Nats unveil District Blueprint as new City Connect uniforms

New season. New roster. And now, a new look.

The Nationals unveiled their new City Connect uniforms this morning with a special ceremony outside the remodeled team store in center field plaza at Nationals Park.

Season plan holders got an exclusive first look at the new look the team will be wearing this season. The event included guest speakers D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and former National Ryan Zimmerman, along with a video that included former Nats closer and current pitching strategist Sean Doolittle and the original song “Our Diamond, Our District” by local rock band O.A.R.

The new City Connect uniforms, titled “District Blueprint” and replacing the very popular Cherry Blossom uniforms the team has worn since 2022, are an homage to the quadrants, grand avenues and traffic circles that connect the city of Washington, D.C. The jersey features the city’s iconic street grid in tones of American denim. The District’s blueprint, if you will.

“This season marks our 20th anniversary, and my family and I are so proud of how this team has become woven into the fabric of our city,” said Nationals managing principal owner Mark D. Lerner in a statement. “These uniforms are a great representation of how baseball has the power to bring us all together, and we are continually honored to play for the people of Washington, D.C.”

The new cap and jersey patch both feature a new stylized block W, which surrounds an outline of the Capitol dome. The W is flanked on either side by the District’s iconic cherry blossoms. On the patch, the W sits on a tile background, reminiscent of some of the city’s most recognizable architectural features, including the Capitol rotunda, Library of Congress and brutalist Metro stations. The interlocking DC on the chest, which was worn by the Nationals from 2006-10, is displayed in a 3D print as a nod to the 1956 Washington Senators logo. A mosaic detail trims the white pants, representing the diverse makeup of Washington, D.C., and how its residents come together to form a work of art.

Said Bowser at the unveiling: “I am grateful that this team has brought to D.C., for the past 20 years, baseball for our kids, the Nationals (Youth Baseball) Academy, which has served more than 6,000 D.C. kids, the amazing development of restaurants and housing here at the Capitol Riverfront, the activities and businesses along the waterfront, and of course amazing players.

“There are so many players who have adopted D.C. as their home – and we are grateful for them – who have shown us so much love for our city and our fans and especially our kids.”

One of those players, of course, is Zimmerman, who played all 16 seasons of his major league career in a Nationals uniform. Mr. National started the celebrations by riding the World-Famous Budweiser Clydesdales from The Wharf all the way to Nats Park.

Along with his wife, Heather, and their children, Zimmerman introduced the new City Connect uniforms and presented Bowser with her own personalized jersey.

“We welcome millions of people from all over the world,” Zimmerman said. “And they all come here to see our monuments, our cherry blossoms. And while we love sharing these with everyone, I think we can all agree that it’s a little bit different and a little more special when you actually live here or you’re from here. I was honored to play my entire career here and I continue to live here with my family. We raise our kids here. We enjoy all the same amenities that this city offers. That’s why I’m so excited to unveil these uniforms. I think these uniforms truly are for the people of D.C. They represent how baseball has become part of the fabric of this city, how the city’s energy runs through our veins and how baseball has the power to bring everyone together.”

The new City Connect jersey will be the fifth uniform set the Nationals will wear this season. The team will continue to wear the white jerseys with script “Nationals” across that chest that have been worn since 2020, as well as the navy jerseys with the script “Nationals” that have been worn since 2018 and are immortalized with the 2019 World Series championship. And the club is bringing back the red Curly W jerseys, which haven’t been worn since 2023.

The Nats will also wear the road gray uniforms that debuted last season with a block “Washington” across the chest as an homage to the lettering used by the Senators in the early 1900s.

Along with the cherry blossom-themed jerseys, the white pullover jersey and tri-colored hat with the Capitol dome logo have been discontinued.

The Nationals will first take to the field in the District Blueprint uniforms on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30 against the Phillies. The uniforms will regularly be worn for Friday and Saturday home games during this season. You will also see special wrapped Metro cars and buses traveling through the tunnels and on the streets of D.C. beginning Monday, April 14 and throughout the season.

The Nationals return from Florida to take on the Orioles in a final exhibition game Monday, March 24 at 1:05 p.m. at Nats Park, live on MASN. They then open the 2025 season at home against the Phillies on Thursday, March 27 at 4:05 p.m.
