Not the best showing in the desert (Nats lose 7-4)

After taking the first two games in Arizona, the Nationals are getting pushed around by the Diamondbacks in the series finale. Boy, are they ever. It's 7-0 after five innings, as the Diamondbacks are outplaying their opposition in all possible phases. Ross Detwiler didn't make it out of the fifth inning, allowing five runs (four earned) over 4 2/3. He only gave up three hits, but left the ball up in the zone much more than he had in his past two outings. The Nats also didn't help him out by making two errors behind him. Offensively, lefty Patrick Corbin has held the Nats to just one hit so far. That one hit was a Bryce Harper infield single in the first inning, which could have easily been ruled an error on Arizona shortstop John McDonald. Since then, it's been a whole lot of nothing for the Nationals' hitters. Corbin has thrown just 55 pitches through five, so unless the Nats can make him work in the middle innings, he'll be in this thing for a while. You can't count out the Nationals this season, as we've discussed. But barring a remarkable comeback, that eight-game winning streak will be coming to an end today. Update: The Nats got to Corbin, notching two runs in the seventh, but it looks like it'll be too little, too late. Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche drove in the Nationals' runs, making it a 7-2 ballgame and knocking Corbin out after the seventh. Quite an outing for the 23-year-old D'backs lefty, who left a red-hot Nationals order befuddled for much of the day. Update II: They put up a nice fight, but the Nationals fell to the D'backs 7-4, failing to earn a sweep in the three-game set. After a few ninth-inning lasers, which brought in two more Nats runs, Roger Bernadina came to the plate with two outs representing the potential game-tying run. He struck out to end the game, bringing the Nationals' eight-game winning streak to an end. The Nats are now down to 27 games above .500. Trade everyone.
