Notes on Dickerson, Strop, Teagarden, Britton and the rotation (updated)

Orioles outfielder Chris Dickerson has been receiving treatment for a sore left wrist, which limited him to one at-bat since his last start on May 23. Dickerson was a candidate to go on the disabled list last weekend before the Orioles decided to put reliever Pedro Strop on the DL while recalling pitcher Steve Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk. Manager Buck Showalter had mentioned that there were two or three players being considered. Dickerson is batting .318/.333/.568 with two doubles, three homers and eight RBIs in 19 games. Strop has thrown off a mound twice since going on the DL with a lower-back strain. He's expected to pitch in a simulated game before going on an injury rehab assignment. "That's the plan," Showalter said. "I don't think he's taking any more shortstop sessions. We may move him to second." He's joking. Taylor Teagarden, on the disabled list with a dislocated left thumb, is starting his rehab assignment tonight at Norfolk. He's batting third and catching. Teagarden is scheduled to catch nine innings tonight and seven-to-nine on Saturday, and serve as the Tides' designated hitter on Sunday. He could be activated on Tuesday, when the Orioles begin a three-game series in Houston. Tsuyoshi Wada is making his fourth start tonight on his rehab assignment. He's 0-2 with a 5.54 ERA in 13 innings, with 13 hits, eight walks and 12 strikeouts. He hasn't gone more than five innings in any start. Left-hander Zach Britton allowed two runs and three hits in five innings last night for the Tides. In his previous start, he gave up one earned run (two total) and seven hits in seven innings, with two walks in eight strikeouts. Britton is 2-2 with a 3.61 ERA in nine games with Norfolk, with 54 hits, 21 walks, 33 strikeouts and only one home run in 47 1/3 innings. Asked about last night's report on Britton, Showalter said, "OK, good. He was crisp. Made some adjustments. We kicked the ball around behind him a little bit, and he handled it real well. Probably could have had a longer outing if we hadn't. He had good stuff." Showalter most likely will push back each starter one day because of Monday's off-day, rather than change the order. "Let's see how it goes the next few days," Showalter said. "I'm going to wait. Right now, I have plans for everybody to stay in line, but that could change." Update: Strop will throw another bullpen session on Saturday and be reevaluated on Monday. He could pitch in a simulated game or go on a rehab assignment. A third possibility, and the least likely of the three, is Strop accompanies the team on the road next week and heads from St. Petersburg to Sarasota to work out at the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
