Notes on Norris, rotation, Gausman, Wieters and more

Bud Norris remains scheduled to start Wednesday at Double-A Bowie while continuing his injury rehab assignment.

Norris was a candidate to start one of the games in Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox, but the Orioles want him to remain on his assignment. Norris allowed nine runs and 12 hits over 2 2/3 innings in Friday's game at Triple-A Norfolk.

Norris, recovering from bronchitis, said he's feeling much better after losing about 14 pounds. He's never been this sick before and was so weakened that his parents flew here to help take care of him while he stayed in bed.

I talked to Norris this morning and will pass along his quotes in my next blog entry.

Tyler Wilson will make an abbreviated start today with Norfolk in case he's recalled on Thursday. T.J. McFarland also is an option for Thursday. Mike Wright definitely will start one of the games.

Kevin Gausman will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, face live hitters on Friday, throw a side session on Sunday and pitch two innings in a simulated game on June 2.

wieters-finished-swing-white-sidebar.jpgMatt Wieters, who's in the Orioles clubhouse today for the first time this season, will catch Dylan Bundy Tuesday at Bowie. He could be the designated hitter on days he's not catching, including Wednesday night.

Ryan Flaherty will play at Norfolk tonight and Tuesday. He's starting at third base tonight.

A reminder that the Orioles won't receive a replacement player while reliever Brian Matusz serves his suspension. They would likely be a man short on the bench in order to keep seven relievers in the bullpen.

Major League Baseball allows teams to replace a player on the roster who's serving a PED-related suspension, but not a player suspended for using a foreign substance. Does that make any sense?

An arbiter will hear Matusz's appeal. Manager Buck Showalter said he won't be part of the appeal process.
