WASHINGTON – Orioles second baseman Rougned Odor has his right hand wrapped after being hit by a pitch Sunday and leaving the game. However, Odor said he probably could pinch-hit tonight and expects to be in Wednesday's lineup.
Odor still has some soreness in the hand. Ramón Urías is starting at second base.
“A lot better today,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “When he came out of the game a couple days ago, it was really swollen, but a lot of treatment on it today, an off-day yesterday was really helpful, and should be available off the bench tonight.”
Austin Voth won’t start against his former team in this two-game series, but he’s available out of the bullpen.
Off-days yesterday and Thursday enable Hyde to adjust his rotation, and Voth is being skipped. Voth will jump back into it for his next turn.
Voth has thrown 85 2/3 innings, including 67 with the Orioles. His previous high was 57 1/3 innings last summer.
“Kind of planned it that way just with all these off-days that we have, as well as giving him a little bit of a break. Try to end the season strong,” Hyde said.
“He’s thrown a lot of innings. He’s made a lot of starts that he hadn’t done the last few years. You kind of can see it his last couple starts. It’s coming at the right time. So, we’re giving him some time off.”
Voth knew where to find the visiting clubhouse, but he said it was “a weird feeling.”
“I’m glad to be back, see some previous teammates," he said. "Got to see some last night, so it’s pretty cool."
The schedule gives the Orioles three breaks within eight days, but none after Thursday. They finish with 20 games in a row.
“You’d like to have them spread out a little bit,” Hyde said. “We definitely needed that one yesterday. Not sure if we’re going to need the one two days from now. We end the season with a long stretch, but it’s part of it, and hopefully we’ll use them the right way. But I thought yesterday was definitely needed after a real tough last week. Hopefully the guys can get refreshed and ready to play tonight.”
The Orioles have gone 49-39 against the Nationals, including 22-21 in D.C.
Double-A Bowie lost 3-0 today in Akron. Cade Povich allowed two runs and three hits in five innings. Tyler Burch allowed one run and two hits in three innings, and he struck out three batters.
