Notes on Suk-min Yoon and Bobby Bundy (and O's lineup vs. Jays)

SARASOTA, Fla. - Wei-Yin Chen threw two scoreless innings today against the Rays in Port Charlotte, Fla. He allowed one hit, a double by John Jaso, and struck out one.

Miguel Gonzalez also is expected to work two innings tonight if his pitch count allows it.

The Orioles are trying to work out a deal to let pitcher Suk-min Yoon out of his contract, which contains two more years, according to a source. Yoon is returning to South Korea and presently has no intention of reporting to minor league camp this weekend.

The other alternative would be to place Yoon on the restricted list and not pay him.

Bobby Bundy, the older brother of Dylan Bundy, is on the travel roster today and could make an appearance against the Rays.

Bobby Bundy, 25, was one of the organization's top pitching prospects in 2011 after going 11-5 with a 2.75 ERA in 20 starts at Single-A Frederick. However, he moved up to Double-A Bowie and allowed 16 earned runs (19 total) and 25 hits in 15 innings, with 11 walks and 13 strikeouts.

Three elbow surgeries later, the former eighth-round pick in 2008 is trying to regain his status in the farm system.

Bundy twice had bone spurs removed from his right elbow and eventually had ligament-reconstructive surgery, the same procedure as his brother. He made three starts with the Gulf Coast League team last summer and three relief appearances at short-season Single-A Aberdeen, allowing a combined six earned runs and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings.

"Then I kind of just shut it down until late December and started playing catch again and everything's going great so far," Bundy said. "I feel great. No setbacks. I think that's the main thing. I feel healthy and I'll just go from there.

"Its very, very satisfying. I feel the best I've felt in a long time and just hope things keep progressing. No setbacks and keep going."

The Orioles intend to move Bundy to the bullpen as he gradually builds up innings.

"They kind of told me relief but don't count out starting, is what they told me at the end of last year," he said. "I haven't heard anything new this year, so that's what I'm preparing to do. Whatever way I can help the team."

The brothers have set a goal to appear in the same box score.

"It was just an awesome time in high school, even though I know that's not like the level of ball we're playing now," Bundy said, "but that's just awesome, a dream come true for both of us if that can happen."

The chances have improved with Bundy finally healthy. Dylan threw a scoreless inning yesterday and Bobby is in Port Charlotte this afternoon.

"It ought to be a new elbow by now," Bobby said. "Three surgeries, you know? It's not something that anyone wants to go through and have to do all the rehab and things like that, but I'm very thankful for that. I think that it's finally led me to a healthy elbow and God bless, I'll just keep on keeping on."

Here's the Orioles' lineup for tonight's game against the Blue Jays in Sarasota:
