SARASOTA, Fla. - Twelve pitchers threw bullpen sessions today before the Orioles concluded today's workout.
Wade Miley, Ubaldo Jiménez and Darren O'Day were in Group 1, followed by Zach Britton, Brad Brach and Logan Ondrusek in Group 2, T.J. McFarland, Kevin Gausman and Dylan Bundy in Group 3 and Chris Lee, Jesús Liranzo and Jed Bradley in Group 4.
Welington Castillo caught O'Day and Britton. Manager Buck Showalter wants his new catcher to get acclimated to the top pitchers on the staff before leaving for the World Baseball Classic.
"He's very receptive. He's a pleaser," Showalter said. "He really wants to work on the things he needs to work on."
Liranzo also impressed Showalter today.
"You can tell he's been playing a little winter ball," Showalter said. "His stuff was crisp."
Showalter would like to carry three left-handers in his bullpen and the club continues to check the market for available southpaws.
Brach's arbitration hearing is set for Thursday at 9:30 a.m. He's leaving camp tonight and heading to St. Petersburg, Fla.
Pitcher Nate Adcock won't report to camp due to injury. He's recovering from ligament-reconstructive surgery in his right elbow in 2015.
Showalter said he may let Manny Machado play shortstop in preparation for the World Baseball Classic.
Newly signed corner infielder Juan Francisco is trying to obtain his work visa. He's not going to be part of major league camp, instead reporting to Twin Lakes Park.
The Orioles should find out by 1 p.m. whether catcher Francisco Peña cleared waivers.
First baseman Chris Davis and infielder Chris Johnson have reported to camp.
The Orioles will play intrasquad games on Feb. 21 and 22. Each pitcher will be restricted to 15 pitches per inning.
Left-hander Zach Britton throws a bullpen session at the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
