O'Day goes on disabled list

Orioles manager Buck Showalter mentioned the possibility earlier today of a roster move involving the bullpen and it was announced after batting practice, with reliever Darren O'Day going on the 10-day disabled list and left-hander Tanner Scott recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.

Showalter used O'Day in Friday night's game in Oakland and the right-hander allowed one run and two hits in 1 2/3 innings. He also struck out two batters in a 6-4 loss.

O'Day is 0-1 with a 3.77 ERA and 0.977 WHIP in 13 appearances. He's surrendered six earned runs (seven total) and 12 hits in 14 1/3 innings, with two walks, 18 strikeouts and three home runs.

The Orioles are hopeful that O'Day will be ready to come off the DL when he's eligible.

Scott gives the Orioles a second left-hander in the bullpen to join Richard Bleier. He's appeared in three games this season and allowed three runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Scott hasn't allowed a run in eight relief appearances with Norfolk. He's given up nine hits, walked six batters and struck out 12 in 10 innings.

The Orioles also could have considered lefty Donnie Hart, who's registered a 1.98 ERA with three runs surrendered and 16 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings. He's strung together six consecutive scoreless outings and 10 of 11, and opponents are batting .174 against him.

Hart threw 34 pitches on Sunday. Scott threw 26 in the same game.

Meanwhile, third baseman Tim Beckham is headed to Philadelphia for a follow-up exam after undergoing core muscle surgery.

Zach Britton threw another bullpen session today and will throw batting practice on May 15. His minor league rehab assignment probably won't begin before May 28, when he's eligible to come off the 60-day disabled list.

Dylan Bundy ran two miles today, further proof that the groin discomfort in Anaheim has subsided.
