Orioles agree to terms with six players

The Orioles today announced that they have agreed to terms with left-handers Zach Britton nad T.J. McFarland, indielders Ryan Flaherty, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop, and right-hander Chris Tillman on one-year contracts, thus avoiding arbitration.

Britton, 29, led the American League with 47 saves, going 2-1 with a 0.54 ERA (4 ER/67.0 IP), the lowest ERA in Major League history among pitchers with at least 50.0 innings pitched. He was named an American League All-Star, earned the save in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and was named the 2016 Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year.

Flaherty, 30, hit .217/.291/.318 (34-for-157) with seven doubles, three home runs, and 15 RBI in 74 games with the Orioles.

Machado, 24, hit .294/.343/.533 (188-for-640) with 40 doubles, 37 home runs, and 96 RBI in 157 games with the Orioles in 2016, setting career highs in home runs and RBI. He was voted the starting American League third baseman in the All-Star Game and was the winner of the 2016 Louis M. Hatter Most Valuable Oriole Award.

McFarland, 27, went 2-2 with a 6.93 ERA (19 ER/24.2 IP) in 16 games with the Orioles.

Schoop, 25, hit .267/.298/.454 (164-for-615) with 38 doubles, 25 home runs, and 82 RBI in 162 games with the Orioles. He notched career highs in games played (162), hits (164), doubles (38), home runs (25), RBI (82), runs scored (82), and walks (21) last season.

Tillman, 28, matched his career high with 16 wins last season, going 16-6 with a 3.77 ERA (72 ER/172.0 IP) in 30 starts with the Orioles.

The Orioles have exchanged salary arbitration figures with right-handers Brad Brach and Kevin Gausman and catcher Caleb Joseph.
