Grayson Rodriguez is undergoing further testing today in Baltimore, and the Orioles hope to have more information later.
Rodriguez left last night’s start after 5 2/3 scoreless innings with discomfort in his right lat.
There’s definitely some concern within the organization because Rodriguez is the No. 1 pitching prospect in baseball and nearing his major league debut. But the team isn’t commenting until it receives more information.
Tonight’s lineup against the Mariners doesn’t include shortstop Jorge Mateo, who’s getting a day off. No issues with his health, according to manager Brandon Hyde.
Chris Owings has replaced Mateo at shortstop.
Adley Rutschman is batting sixth. Rougned Odor is eighth.
Odor has reached base safely in 13 of his last 16 games, slashing .276/.300/.586 (16-for-58) with four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 16 RBIs and nine runs scored since May 16.
Austin Hays has a 12-game hitting streak, the longest for the Orioles this season. He’s slashed .333/.412/.489 (15-for-45) with a double, two home runs, 10 RBIs and nine runs scored.
Trey Mancini leads the club with 18 multi-hit games.
Ramón Urías has a hit in 10 of his last 12 games dating back to May 20, slashing .319/.360/.596 (15-for-47) with four doubles and three home runs.
Jordan Lyles makes his 11th start for the Orioles tonight. He’s 3-4 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.421 WHIP in 57 innings. His 64 hits allowed are tied with Houston’s José Urquidy for most in the American League.
Lyles had made 11 career appearances (nine starts) against the Mariners and registered a 5.87 ERA and 1.342 WHIP in 53 2/3 innings.
Kyle Lewis is on the injured list. He’s 6-for-11 with two doubles and two home runs against Lyles.
Seattle is starting right-hander Chris Flexen, a 14th-round pick by the Mets in the 2012 draft. He was released in December 2019 and signed by the Mariners a week later.
Flexen posted a 3.61 ERA and 1.252 WHIP last summer in 31 starts. He’s made nine this season and gone 2-6 with a 4.47 ERA and 1.411 WHIP in 50 1/3 innings.
Reverse splits show right-handers batting .310/.367/.495 in his career, and left-handers are batting .248/.319/.406.
Flexen has never faced the Orioles.
Ty France has a career-high 13-game hitting streak.
