Orioles and Rangers lineups to begin second half

ARLINGTON, Texas – Corbin Burnes follows his scoreless first inning in Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Globe Life Field with tonight’s start against the Rangers that begins the second half.

Burnes made his first career start against the Rangers on June 27 at Camden Yards and held them to one run with nine hits over seven innings. Adolis García homered off Burnes.

According to STATS, Burnes is the only pitcher in the modern era with a career WHIP under 1.00 on the road in a minimum 50 starts. His WHIP is 0.99.

Colton Cowser is in left field tonight and Cedric Mullins is in center. Jorge Mateo is the second baseman and Jordan Westburg is at third.

Adley Rutschman (59) and Anthony Santander (58) had at least 55 RBIs at the break, just the third pair of switch-hitting teammates to do it after Cleveland’s José Ramírez and Francisco Lindor in 2019 and Carlos Baerga and Eddie Murray in 1994, according to STATS.

The Orioles won three of four games against the Rangers June 27-30.

The Orioles were 58-38 at the break despite having two five-game losing streaks. Per STATS, the only other team in major league history to be 20 or more games over .500 at the break despite two separate five-game losing streaks was the 1979 Orioles (at 59-31).

Nathan Eovaldi has made 16 starts and posted a 2.97 ERA and 1.043 WHIP in 94 innings. He’s 5-0 with a 1.99 ERA and 0.784 WHIP in 10 starts at home and opponents are batting .166/.214/.288.

The last time that the Orioles saw Eovaldi was in Game 3 of the American League Division Series in Texas. He allowed one run in seven innings and the Rangers completed their sweep.

The Orioles are 7-2 all-time at Globe Life Field.
