NEW YORK - Michael Morse will make his Orioles debut today in left field, with Danny Valencia serving as the designated hitter against Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte. They also DFA'd Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Eric Thames, 26, was acquired from the Mariners on June 30 for minor league infielder Ty Kelly. The Orioles also purchased the contract of Double-A Bowie pitcher Eric Beaulac and placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a torn labrum in his right hip. He takes Thames' spot on the 40-man roster. The Orioles made this move to give them another player who can be replaced on the playoff roster. Bowie outfielder Kyle Hudson suffered a stress fracture in his right leg. Bowie catcher Caleb Joseph will move up to Norfolk as a second catcher with Luis Exposito. As for the decision to DFA Teagarden, executive vice president Dan Duquette noted how catcher Chris Snyder had an opt-out clause in his contract and the Orioles wanted to keep him in the organization. They wanted to add Steve Clevenger for his left-handed bat and versatility. And it's difficult to keep four catchers on the roster. "These are always tough decisions," Duquette said. "It's difficult when you're trying to staff the team and also create some flexibility in the event that we can advance to the playoffs. "Clevenger is a left-handed hitter, and that's a good complement to our roster. And Snyder handles pitchers very well. He did a nice job when he was here earlier. He knows how to get hitters out with his veteran experience. "Clevenger hits left-handed and can play a couple other positions, and we thought he was a good complement to the team. "We appreciate the work Taylor Teagarden did for us. He's been a teammate to a lot of these guys in the clubhouse. But we just thought this was the best decision for the team." Duquette will attempt to trade Teagarden, 29, who batted .167/.180/.300 (10-for-60) with two homers and five RBIs in 23 games for the Orioles this season.
