Tonight's Orioles-Blue Jays game postponed due to rain

Orioles fans must wait to finally watch Tomoyuki Sugano pitch on his home mound.

Tonight’s game against the Blue Jays has been postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a split-admission doubleheader on Tuesday, July 29 at 12:35 p.m. The second game will begin as scheduled at 6:35 p.m.

Gates for game one will open at 11:35 a.m. and gates for the nightcap will open at 5:35 p.m. MASN will broadcast both games.

Fans with tickets for tonight will receive their same seat for game one of the doubleheader. Tickets for the originally scheduled July 29 game at 6:35 p.m. are still valid for that night.

The first 10,000 fans attending the 12:35 p.m. game on July 29 will receive the clear stadium bag giveaway.

This is the Orioles’ first postponement in 2025. They played seven of their 13 games in a dome.

Sugano’s first two major league starts came in Toronto and Kansas City. He was getting the ball tonight in a rematch of his debut game when he allowed two runs in four innings before exiting with hand cramps.

Sugano faced the Royals on Saturday and allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings to leave his ERA at 2.89.

According to STATS, Sugano is the first Oriole to go at least four innings with two runs and two walks or fewer in his first two major league games since Dave Ford did it in three straight in 1978-79.

The Orioles are averaging 5.38 runs per nine innings in day games and 2.40 in night games.

Where has the power gone? The Orioles hit 10 home runs in their first three games, all of them against Toronto, but have only two since that outburst. The weather at Kauffman Stadium was a deterrent.

The Orioles have received 23 RBIs from the bottom three spots in the order, third most in the majors behind the Cubs and Angels with 25, per STATS. Mullins has nine from the seventh spot.

Adley Rutschman has reached base at least once and struck out no more than once in all 12 of his games, the longest streak to begin a season by an Orioles catcher since Gus Triandos (16 games) in 1959, according to STATS.

The Orioles and Jays split their four-game series at Rogers Centre. Right-hander Bowden Francis, who was supposed to start tonight, has surrendered two runs and two hits in six innings against the Nationals and two run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings against the Mets.

Right-handers hit .193 with a .619 OPS against Francis and left-handers hit .193 with a .603 OPS. He’s made seven career appearances against the Orioles, only two starts, and posted a 5.03 ERA and 1.119 WHIP in 19 2/3 innings.

Francis has pitched three times at Camden Yards, including one start, and allowed five runs and 10 hits in eight innings.

Ryan Mountcastle is 5-for-7 with two doubles and two home runs against Francis. Gunnar Henderson is 2-for-5 with a double.

The Orioles need Henderson to get hot. He’s 4-for-25 since his reinstatement from the injured list.

Francis posted a 5.82 ERA in the first half last season and a 1.80 ERA after the break.

Jays' pitching has allowed one home run in seven road games this season.

George Springer has 107 career hits against the Orioles, his highest total versus any team outside the American League West.

Cade Povich’s ERA is down to 3.48 after a scoring change that turned Bobby Witt Jr.’s triple in Kansas City into an error on center fielder Jorge Mateo. The three runs that inning are unearned.

Mountcastle had his triple off Kris Bubic changed to a three-base error on right fielder Hunter Renfroe. His average is lowered to .268.

Former Orioles bench coach Fredi González will serve as an assistant manager for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Matt Holliday, father of Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday, will be the hitting coach.
