"Orioles Classics" rewind: Cal's final game and Wieters' heroics

Well, at least there was some form of actual baseball played this week. Some Orioles players participated in a minicamp at the Ed Smith Stadium complex this past week, with MASNsports.com's Roch Kubatko bringing you behind-the-scenes looks and all the news from Sarasota, Fla.

On top of that, the countdown to O's pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training is now at 29 days.

So baseball fans have that going for them, which is nice ...

In the meantime, MASN continues our efforts to give you warm, baseball-filled thoughts this offseason with another set of "Orioles Classics" lined up this week.

Check out the breakdown below:

Monday, Jan. 16, 7:30 p.m. - Cal Ripken Jr. is perhaps the most celebrated Orioles player of all-time. From Rookie of the Year honors to two MVP awards to 19 All-Star Game appearances to a World Series ring to 2,131, Ripken has cemented his legacy not only in Baltimore's baseball history, but as one of the sport's all-time greats. On Oct. 6, 2001, baseball's Iron Man played his last game in front of a raucous crowd at Camden Yards.

Tuesday, Jan. 17, 9 a.m. - Down 3-2 to the White Sox with two outs in the bottom of the 10th on Sept. 7, 2013, Matt Wieters knocked a two-run single to give the Birds a 4-3 win, their third straight victory to stay in the postseason hunt.

Wednesday, Jan. 18, 12:30 p.m. - 2013 was a special year for Chris Davis. In a game at Fenway Park on Sept. 13, Davis smacked his team record-breaking 51st home run (he would finish the season with 53). The Orioles were able to drive in a run in the ninth for a 3-2 win over the Red Sox and remain two games back in the American League wild card race.

Sunday, Jan. 22, 8:30 p.m. - If you look out the window this time of year, you'll see similar weather to what we saw on last year's opening day at Camden Yards. Except on that day, we got rain instead of the occasional snow flurries. Pick your poison. Regardless, the Orioles didn't let a little rain damper the opening day festivities, as Wieters once again delivered a walk-off RBI single for a 3-2 win over the Twins on April 4.
