"Orioles Classics" #TBT: Hello, goodbye and everything in between

One of the great things about highlighting rebroadcasts of games from a team with a tradition that stretches back to 1954 is the variety of choices you get in the film library.

This week's collection of "Orioles Classics" on MASN stretches all the way back to 1987 and a day when a trio from the same family made headlines. It includes the last game at Memorial Stadium in 1991 and the first game at Camden Yards in 1992. And it includes some memorable moments from the 2012 season that saw the Birds end their long climb to eclipse .500 for the first time in years.

Yes, there are some homer-filled games and some extra-inning intrigue, too.

Adjust your recliner to your desired level of comfort, keep the remote control handy and enjoy this week's "Orioles Classics."

Thursday, June 4 - 2:30 p.m. - Fans with an intricate knowledge of dates know that Sept. 13, 2012 was an important date in Baltimore baseball history. That's the night the Orioles beat the Rays 3-2 in 14 innings to break a string of 14 straight sub-.500 campaigns. Manny Machado had the big hit, a walk-off single to left that plated Adam Jones with the decisive run.

Thursday, June 4 - 11 p.m. - The Orioles' Chris Davis and the Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman played their own version of "Home Run Derby" in an interleague tilt on May 29, 2013, with Zimmerman winning the battle, but Davis and the Birds triumphing 9-6. Zimmerman went deep three times, but Davis' four-hit night included two home runs, including a two-run shot in a six-run seventh that carried the Orioles to victory.

Saturday, June 6 - 11:30 a.m. - Settle in for this marathon from May 6, 2012 that took 6 hours, 7 minutes to decide. Davis went 0-for-8, but moved from designated hitter to the mound to pitch the final two innings in scoreless fashion, picking up a win. The Orioles got a three-run 17th-inning homer from Jones off Darnell McDonald, another position player forced to the hill in a 9-6 O's triumph.

Sunday, June 7 - 11:59 p.m. - July 11, 1987 is a watershed moment in Baltimore baseball annals, the game where three Ripkens - shortstop Cal Jr., second baseman Billy and O's skipper Cal - were all part of the same contest. The brothers Ripken went hitless in a 2-1 loss to the Twins.

Tuesday, June 9 - noon - We start a tripleheader of "Orioles Classics" with this 13-inning slugfest with the Tigers from May 16, 2017. The O's prevailed 13-11 on Davis' second homer of the day, a two-run blast that quieted Comerica Park. Davis finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs.

Tuesday, June 9 - 5:30 p.m. - The Tigers were the opposition on Oct. 6, 1991 in the Orioles' final game at Memorial Stadium on 33rd Street, which welcomed them in 1954. There wasn't much to cheer about in a 7-1 Detroit victory, with Mike Flanagan throwing the final pitch by an Oriole, striking out Travis Fryman in the top of the ninth. But the festivities that followed brought tears to many eyes.

Tuesday, June 9 - 8:30 p.m. - The Birds moved into their new roost at Camden Yards on April 6, 1992, christening the new ballpark with a 2-0 win over the Indians. Right-hander Rick Sutcliffe made short work of the Tribe - like 2 hours, 2 minutes - with a five-hit shutout. The bottom of the order provide the offense, with Chris Hoiles and Billy Ripken notching RBIs.

Wednesday, June 10 - 11:30 a.m. - We'll finish this week's recaps with a look back at a happy moment: the victory over the Blue Jays on Sept. 16, 2014 that gave the Orioles their first American League East crown since 1997. An 8-2 victory left a crowd of 35,297 giddy and dancing on Eutaw Street. Steve Pearce and Jimmy Paredes connected for the O's and Tommy Hunter got Ryan Goins on an unassisted grounder to Pearce at first to trigger a wild celebration.
