Orioles complete 2020 First-Year Player Draft

The Orioles made four selections on Day Two of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft on Thursday, completing rounds 2-5. This year, the Orioles selected six players overall: five position players and one pitcher, with four of the selections being college athletes. The Orioles selected one right-handed pitcher, three infielders, and two outfielders.

Hudson Haskin, 21, an outfielder from Tulane University (LA), hit .333/.452/.500 (22-for-66) with six doubles, one triple, one home run, 18 runs, and 14 RBI in 17 games during his sophomore season, which was shortened due to COVID-19. He finished third on the team in hits, runs scored, RBI, and total bases (33), and finished fourth on the team in batting average. He finished the season with a perfect fielding percentage, and did not make an error in 73 career games at Tulane. He was named a Collegiate Baseball, D1Baseball.com, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-American Second Team, as well as being named to the All-American Athletic Conference Preseason Team, and to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List. As a true freshman in 2019, he appeared in 56 of Tulane's 58 games, with 50 starts in the outfield. He hit .372/.459/.647 (77-for-207) with 19 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, 54 runs scored, and 52 RBI. He finished second on the team in batting average, doubles, total bases (134) and slugging percentage, while finishing third in RBI, hits, and runs scored. He led all NCAA Division I freshmen in batting average, and ranked third in slugging percentage, fifth in total bases, and sixth in doubles and on-base percentage. He was named to the D1Baseball.com and NCBWA Freshman All-America First Team and the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American Team, as well as being named to the Baseball America Freshman All-America Second Team. He is the fifth player in program history to be selected by the Orioles. A native of New York, N.Y., Haskin was a four-year letterwinner at Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Conn. He was ranked as the No. 74 overall draft prospect by MLB.com and No. 211 by Baseball America.

Anthony Servideo, 21, a shortstop from the University of Mississippi, hit .390/.575/.695 (23-for-59) with three doubles, five home runs, 24 runs, and 17 RBI in 17 games during his junior season, which was shortened due to COVID-19. He finished the season ranked second on the team in batting average. He led the SEC in walks (24) and on-base percentage, and ranked second in runs and stolen bases (9). He was named the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week (Week 2), as well as a Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American. As a sophomore in 2019, he hit .287/.429/.388 (60-for-209) with 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 62 runs, and 26 RBI in 66 games. He led the team in stolen bases with 24, tied for the eighth most in a single season in program history. As a freshman in 2018, he appeared in 34 games (15 starts) and was selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team as a second baseman. A native of Jupiter, Fla., Servideo was a three-year letterwinner at Jupiter Community High School, where he was named the 2017 9A-9 Player of the Year and Hitter of the Year, and also earned 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American honors. He was ranked as the No. 91 overall draft prospect by Baseball America and No. 110 by MLB.com. His grandfather, Curt Blefary, had an eight-year Major League career and spent his first four seasons with Baltimore. Blefary won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 1965 and was a member of the 1966 World Series Champion Orioles.

Coby Mayo, 18, a third baseman from Marjory Stoneman Douglas (FL) High School, hit .455/.613/.772 with one double, two home runs, nine runs, and six RBI in eight games during his senior season, which was shortened due to COVID-19. He was named a Rawlings-Perfect Game First Team Senior Preseason All-American and to the Florida Region All-High School Senior First Team. In 2019, he played in the Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Park in San Diego. In his career at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Mayo hit .387/.539/.706 with 13 home runs, 62 runs, and 48 RBI. He was ranked as the No. 79 draft prospect by Baseball America and No. 132 by MLB.com.

Carter Baumler, 18, a right-handed pitcher from Dowling Catholic (IA) High School, was named to the Rawlings-Perfect Game Central Region All-High School Senior First Team in 2020. In 2019, he played in the Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Park in San Diego, striking out two batters in a scoreless inning. He was ranked as the No. 102 overall draft prospect by MLB.com and No. 147 by Baseball America.
