Orioles going for the sweep (O's win 8-0)

Consider it only a slight exaggeration when I say the line for fans to enter Camden Yards for Game 2 of the doubleheader wrapped around M&T Bank Stadium.

Lots of interest in a hot baseball team - and a certain garden gnome.

The Orioles are 7-0-1 in their last eight series. They're assured of registering their first season series win over the Indians since 2006.

The Game 1 shutout was the Orioles' first against the Indians since July 2, 2005. Their last six shutouts vs. the Indians have come at home.

Chris Davis is batting .360/.467/.560 during a seven-game hitting streak. He's hit safely in 13 of his last 17 games, batting .295/.403/.475 (18-for-61) with 11 RBIs.

Eight of Manny Machado's 15 home runs have led off an inning. The 15 home runs are a career high and the most by an Orioles third baseman since Mark Reynolds hit 24 in 2011.

Six of Jimmy Paredes' nine home runs have given the Orioles a lead. All nine home runs and 32 of his 36 RBIs have come against right-handers.

Paredes has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, batting .463/.477/.756. He's registered five consecutive multi-hit games.

Jason Kipnis' 20-game hitting streak ended in Game 1.

Left-hander T.J. McFarland is in the bullpen for Game 2 before heading back to Triple-A Norfolk. The shuttle is in motion again.

"It's not easy for us, but it's something he does well, and he was a very valuable part of our club last year," said manager Buck Showalter. "Believe me. Ask those other bullpen guys, the games he kept us from having to use people made our bullpen healthier and stronger. And we have other people who can do that. Tyler Wilson's shown that ability, Steve Johnson showed that ability, (Kevin) Gausman has done that for us. We have movable parts to cover those games we get to and we need some length.

"Just because you don't pitch in the game doesn't mean you haven't made a contribution having him down there. Having (Oliver) Drake and Brian (Matusz) in Toronto allowed us to win a game just by having them down there and being able to use guys in a different way. If we didn't have them, we couldn't use them the way we used them. Mac's good at that. When we made the move day before yesterday, looking at the weather and what might go on, we felt like there's a good chance he'd be back for the doubleheader."

Christian Walker hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Norfolk a 5-4 win over the Toledo Mud Hens. The Tides have won six in a row for the first time this season.

Henry Urrutia had three hits and three RBIs. Steve Clevenger and Michael Almanzar each had two hits.

Mike Wright relieved Kevin Gausman in the fourth and allowed four runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings, with two walks and two strikeouts. Oliver Drake earned the win with a scoreless ninth.

Drake hasn't allowed a run in 17 consecutive appearances, holding opponents to a .119 average (7-for-59).

The Orioles have promoted Cuban left-hander Ariel Miranda from the Gulf Coast League to Single-A Frederick.

Update: Ryan Flaherty's two-run single with two outs in the second inning gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead.

Travis Snider reached on a two-out error by second baseman Jason Kipnis, J.J. Hardy doubled and Flaherty came through with his single, giving him 20 RBIs this season.

Both runs were unearned.

Update II: Davis and Snider homered in the fourth inning to give the Orioles a 4-0 lead.

Left-hander Marc Rzepczynski entered the game in relief after J.J. Hardy walked with one out. Former Oriole Ryan Webb replaced Rzepczynski with two on and two outs, and Machado greeted him with a two-run double.

Chris Parmelee followed with a two-run homer. Orioles 8, Indians 0.

That's three home runs in one inning.

Update III: Chris Tillman shut out the Indians on four hits over seven innings, with no walks and six strikeouts. He threw 110 pitches, 70 for strikes.

The Orioles haven't posted shutouts in both ends of a doubleheader since Dave McNally and Mike Cuellar started on Sept. 6, 1974 in Cleveland.

Update IV: The Orioles completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory before 40,006 at Camden Yards.

Two games, two giveaways, two shutouts.

T.J. McFarland worked the last two innings.

The Orioles (41-34) are a season-high seven games above .500 and have won 18 of their last 23.

Tillman has four wins and a no-decision in his last five starts.
