Orioles option Donnie Hart to Triple-A Norfolk (O's lead 3-0)

Left-hander Donnie Hart spent one day with the Orioles, earning the win last night before heading back to Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles optioned Hart today and reinstated Dylan Bundy from the bereavement list. Bundy is starting tonight against the Mariners.

Manager Buck Showalter challenged the media earlier today to come up with suggestions. He preferred to keep his bullpen intact, but Hart was the most logical roster move.

Hart was recalled yesterday while the Orioles optioned Mike Wright, who had replaced Bundy. He tossed a scoreless seventh inning and Chris Davis broke a 6-6 tie in the bottom half with an RBI double in a 7-6 win at Camden Yards.

Hart most recently had been optioned on Aug. 9 while outfielder Mark Trumbo came off the disabled list. He's 2-0 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.374 WHIP in 40 appearances covering 35 2/3 innings.

In 12 games with Norfolk, Hart has gone 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA and 1.159 WHIP over 14 2/3 innings. He's walked two batters, one intentionally, and struck out 19.

Showalter wanted a rested left-hander yesterday because Richard Bleier had appeared in the last five games over a six-day span.

Hart must remain off the Orioles' roster for a minimum of 10 days before they can recall him, despite Norfolk's season ending on Sept. 4. The absence played into their reluctance to send him down today.

Meanwhile, rain continues to fall at Camden Yards, and a 7:05 p.m. start time grows more unlikely. This would be the 17th delay at home this season, along with one each in D.C. and Chicago.

Also, there's been a scoring change from Friday night's game in Boston. Tim Beckham is credited with an infield hit in the second inning. He originally had reached on an error by third baseman Rafael Devers.

Devers still gets an error for allowing Seth Smith to advance from second base to third.

Update: We're officially in a rain delay, but the Orioles expect to play tonight.

Update II: Jonathan Schoop homered with two outs in the first inning to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.

The delay lasted 32 minutes.

Update III: Manny Machado led off the sixth with his 29th home run to tie Schoop for the team lead and give the Orioles a 2-0 advantage. Dylan Bundy has allowed one hit in six innings, Kyle Seager's bunt single in the fourth.

Update IV: Welington Castillo greeted reliever James Pazos with a home run in the seventh to expand the lead to 3-0.
