Orioles select contract of infielder Paul Janish from Triple-A Norfolk, option left-hander T.J. McFarland to Norfolk

The Orioles today announced that they have selected the contract of infielder Paul Janish from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned left-hander T.J. McFarland to Triple-A Norfolk. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Scott McGough has been designated for assignment.

Janish, 33, batted .329/.364/.356 with two doubles, two RBI, and eight runs scored in 21 games with Triple-A Norfolk this season. He ranks seventh in the International League in batting average, posting eight multi-hit games and reaching base safely in 16 of his last 20 games. In 445 career major league games, Janish has hit .216/.284/.291 with 58 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 84 RBI including a .286/.278/.371 slash line over 14 games with the Orioles last season.

McFarland, 26, went 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA (7 ER/13.1 IP) and four strikeouts over eight games with the Orioles this season.

McGough, 26, went a combined 0-1 with a 12.96 ERA (12 ER/8.1 IP) between Triple-A New Orleans and Triple-A Norfolk. He was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on April 15 from the Miami Marlins.
