Orioles set 26-man roster

The Orioles won't play today in Boston, but they're able to set their opening day roster by the noon deadline.

There are no surprises beyond the early rainout.

Outfielder DJ Stewart is on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. Reliever Shawn Armstrong is on the paternity list, keeping him away from the team for a maximum of three days.

Reliever Travis Lakins Sr. is optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, but manager Brandon Hyde indicated yesterday that the assignment could be temporary.

"That doesn't mean he's not going to be with us soon," Hyde said, "and not be with us for the rest of the year."

First baseman Chris Davis (lower back strain) and reliever Hunter Harvey (left oblique strain) are on the 60-day injured list.

Sceroler-Throws-White-ST-Sidebar.jpgEight Orioles made their first opening day roster: Pitchers Dean Kremer, Dillon Tate, Bruce Zimmermann, César Valdez and Rule 5 picks Mac Sceroler and Tyler Wells, infielder Ramón Urías and outfielder/first baseman Ryan Mountcastle.

Left-hander John Means will make his first career opening day start on Friday.

The Orioles are carrying 14 pitchers and three reserves while ramping up from 60 to 162 games. They need the innings coverage, but could adjust later in the summer.

Pitcher Adam Plutko is wearing No. 35, Sceroler 67 and Wells 68.
