Potomac lefty Rosenbaum "sharp" with 11 K's in win over Frederick

Potomac Nationals left-hander Danny Rosenbaum had one of his best outings of his young career Sunday in a 5-2 victory over the Frederick Keys, on a scorching Sunday afternoon from Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, Va. Rosenbaum went eight innings and struck out a career-high 11 hitters. He allowed three hits and two runs in the first inning, but then hurled seven shutout innings of hitless baseball. Potomac Nationals pitching coach Paul Menhart said Rosenbaum "was very good" for those seven innings and looked "sharp" with his entire pitching arsenal. The Xavier University product retired 22 of his last 25 batters faced. Rosenbaum (6-5) yielded just a walk, a hit batter and an error in those final seven frames. The Keys managed a pair of RBI hits in that first inning from Jonathan Schoop and Miguel Abreu. Catcher Sandy Leon cranked a two-run homer, and a bases loaded walk to Francisco Soriano made it 3-2, Potomac. A Leon RBI groundout doubled the advantage to 4-2. Destin Hood contributed an RBI single that made it, 5-2 P-Nats. Hector Nelo came on in the ninth for his 14th save. Notes: Newly acquired shortstop Zach Walters will undergo a physical and then join Potomac Tuesday in Salem. Walters was a college teammate of P-Nats' pitcher Sammy Solis, who will make the start.
