Potomac's Kobernus replaces Hood as Carolina League All-Star

Single-A Potomac Nationals second baseman Jeff Kobernus has been named to the 2011 Carolina league All-Star team, replacing his teamate, outfielder Destin Hood. Hood was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a knee injury. Hood has been recovering from a knee issue and needs some rest. Kobernus has gotten hot at the right time, batting .333 (37-for-111) with 18 runs and 12 steals in the last 28 games. He is batting .266 overall, with 13 doubles, two home runs and 24 RBIs. Kobernus leads the Carolina League with 26 stolen bases. Potomac Nationals hitting coach Mark Harris has seen Kobernus get on a streak and feels there is no reason why he couldn't continue the trend at the plate for the rest of the year. "I wouldn't be surprised if he ends the season at .285 or .290," Harris said. "He has had some good streaks. It is a day-to-day thing. It is one of those things where you have to understand where it is based on 140 games and not two or three games. "I think (Kobernus) is figuring it out. The last few games he has had better at-bats. He is going the other way a little bit better and covering the outside corner. I look forward to a pretty good second half (from him and the rest of the team)." Potomac manager Matt LeCroy will manage the Carolina League against the California League All-Stars in Modesto, Calif., on June 21.
