The Orioles' roster could undergo more changes this week as the club embarks on a three-city West Coast trip that includes off-days on Monday, Thursday and August 15.
The Orioles could choose to carry an extra bench player once Brian Roberts comes off paternity leave on Monday. Manager Buck Showalter indicated that it's one of the possibilities being considered.
Bud Norris and Miguel Gonzalez are scheduled to start the two games in San Diego. Gonzalez would be skipped if he's used out of the bullpen today as a long reliever.
Infielder Wilson Betemit will begin his injury-rehab assignment on Tuesday by serving as the designated hitter for the Gulf Coast League Orioles. He hasn't played in a game since tearing the PCL in his right knee in spring training.
Betemit is expected to remain a DH for at least the first few days of his assignment. It depends on how his knee responds to game activity.
The Orioles could activate Betemit before rosters expand in September. Otherwise, they may need to seek his permission to keep him on the assignment beyond the maximum 20 days for a position player.
It's been a difficult year for Betemit, who's also had a few people close to him pass away this summer. Baseball hasn't always been a priority.

Shameless plug alert: I'm appearing on "O's Xtra" that begins at 1 p.m. on MASN. And the network is currently replaying my segment on "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" with Tom Davis.
It's just a Roch kind of a day.
