Quick updates on Dickerson, Alvarez and Reimold (updated)

A few teams have expressed interest in outfielder Chris Dickerson and the Orioles are continuing attempts to trade him, according to a club official. Dickerson was designated for assignment on Friday to make room for outfielder Henry Urrutia on the 25- and 40-man rosters. The Orioles have until the weekend to trade Dickerson or get him through waivers. He figures to be claimed if multiple teams are involved in discussions with executive vice president Dan Duquette. Dickerson batted .245/.274/.412 with five doubles, four homers and 13 RBIs in 46 games. He had four walks and 36 strikeouts in 106 plate appearances. The Orioles are waiting to receive a few more results from Dariel Alvarez's physical before making his signing official. They expect to have an announcement on Wednesday, along with information on where he will be assigned. Alvarez, who took his physical yesterday in Baltimore, agreed to terms last week on an $800,000 signing bonus. He defected last summer and played professionally in Mexico before being declared a free agent in January. In 2012, Alvarez played for La Liga Invernal Veracruzana and batted .354/.371/.521 with two home runs in 152 at-bats. Outfielder Nolan Reimold was scheduled to undergo surgery on his neck this morning at the Florida Spine Institute in Clearwater. It's a corrective procedure to fuse two vertebrae and it will end his season. The Orioles are waiting to hear from Dr. Robert Kowalski, a neurosurgeon who examined Reimold during the All-Star break, but they don't anticipate any issues. It will be one of those "underwent successful surgery" notes. It will be truly successful if the vertebrae fuse before he's cleared for baseball-related activities. Update: Just confirming here that Reimold did have the surgery and it's deemed "successful" today. He isn't expected to be full-go at the start of spring training next year. Zach Britton and Freddy Garcia are starting for Norfolk tonight in a doubleheader against Pawtucket. The Tides were rained out again last night.
