Rendon plays in both ends of Harrisburg doubleheader

Nationals second baseman Anthony Rendon (oblique strain) made another step toward returning to the team by playing in both ends of a doubleheader Wednesday night for Double-A Harrisburg.

Rendon has not played this season for the Nationals. He has now had five rehab games since May 29.

In Game 1, Rendon went 1-for-4 with a double in the seventh inning and struck out once. He was a part of a 4-6-3 double play. In Game 2, he was the designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a single.

The Senators split the doubleheader, winning 2-1 then falling 1-0 in the nightcap.

Rendon has hit .250 (6-for-24) in eight total rehab games, with three doubles and nine total bases, and has four hits in his last five contests.

Harrisburg has one more home game tonight versus Akron. In one scenario, if he feels good and his timing is back at the plate, Rendon could play in that game and then, when the Senators head to Trenton, may return to the Nationals who begin a four-game set with the Cubs tonight.

Richard Bleier pitched very well in Game 1, going eight innings, scattering seven hits, allowing no runs and one walk, and striking out one. Gilberto Mendez (3-2) notched with the win with three strikeouts and one run allowed in the ninth.
