Rendon to D.C. for September call-up? (plus news on Perry, Wang and Pucetas)

Nationals prospect Anthony Rendon spent just nine games with high Single-A Potomac before being called up to Double-A Harrisburg. He has played only four games for the Senators, but with September call-ups just around the corner, manager Davey Johnson was asked about the possibility of Rendon getting some at-bats at the major league level before the season ends. "He hasn't had many at-bats," Johnson said. "I don't know how many games they have left down in Harrisburg. But I know that he is a talented right-handed bat and he is on the 40-man roster. Anybody that is on the 40-man roster that can do some things are candidates in Harrisburg." The Senators' final regular season game of the season is Sept. 3 against Bowie at home. With Rendon the only offensive player in Harrisburg on the 40-man, he would be the obvious choice. But the quote is also telling when considering the other two pitchers who currently reside on 40-man who pitch for Harrisburg: right-handers Chien-Ming Wang and Ryan Perry. Wang is coming off one of his better rehab starts. On Thursday, Wang went 4 2/3 innings in a loss against Akron, but surrendered only three hits, two runs, two walks and struck out three. He continued to get groundball outs, registering seven, with two flyball outs. Wang will get his next start Tuesday for the Senators. But the more intriguing thought is converted reliever Perry. He certainly has the stuff, and his last outing was his first complete game. At Erie, Pa., on Friday night, Perry tossed nine innings, scattering eight hits and allowing only one run on solo homer, one walk and two strikeouts. He is 2-3 with a 1.86 ERA in 11 starts for the Senators, totaling 37 strikeouts and 18 walks. Opponents are batting .204 against him. Right-hander Kevin Pucetas has been promoted from Harrisburg. The Eastern League All-Star was called up to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. Pucetas has allowed four runs in his last three starts, a span of 15 innings. He is 7-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 26 games (11 starts) this season for Harrisburg, with 62 strikeouts.
