The Washington Nationals today returned from rehab and reinstated right-handed pitcher Ryan Mattheus from the 15-Day Disabled List and designated right-handed pitcher Brad Lidge for assignment. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Mattheus missed the last 24 games with a plantar fascia strain (left foot). The 28-year-old went 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA (3 ER/3.0 IP) in three rehab appearances with Double-A Harrisburg and Single-A Potomac.
In 19 relief appearances with Washington this season, Mattheus is 2-1 with six holds and a 2.25 ERA.
Lidge, 35, went 0-1 with two saves and a 9.64 ERA in 11 appearances this season with the Nationals.
