Roark and Fernandez duel in Miami (Marlins win 1-0)

MIAMI - As one might have expected, a pair of pitchers with identical 15-8 records and sub-3.00 ERAs are locked in a pitchers' duel at Marlins Park on Tuesday night.

Right-hander Jose Fernandez, who is 6-0 against the Nationals, has struck out five through four innings, allowing only a first-inning double to Stephen Drew.

But he then coaxed Christian Yelich into a liner right into the glove of shortstop Danny Espinosa to end the inning.

The Marlins have two hits and have left four on base.

There is no score in the middle of the fourth.

Update: For the second game in a row, Giancarlo Stanton opened the scoring with a towering home run, this time a solo shot over the right field wall, his 27th of the season. The Marlins lead 1-0 in the sixth.

Update II: Roark finished seven innings again, allowing one run on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts. He threw 86 pitches, 57 for strikes. Roark has gone seven innings or more and allowed one earned run or less 12 times this season. That mark ties Chicago's Jon Lester who is also pitching tonight.

The Nationals notched a pair of singles from Wilson Ramos and Brian Goodwin to put men on the corners with one out in the eighth. But Fernandez struck out Danny Espinosa and pinch-hitter Daniel Murphy grounded out to end the scoring opportunity.

Update III: Fernandez finished eight innings, allowing three hits with 12 strikeouts. His career ERA versus the Nationals now at 0.98.

David Phelps came on for the save in the ninth. Stephen Drew singled off of Phelps with one out. Bryce Harper struck out looking before Anthony Rendon grounded into a fielder's choice to second base to end the game.

The Nationals have lost four in a row. The Marlins defeated the Nationals 1-0. It was the shortest game of the season for the Nats at 2 hours, 11 minutes.
