Still tied in the fifth (and tied in the seventh)

BOSTON - It's been a strange night. I never imagined that I'd be blogging about Miguel Tejada again, at least in connection to the Orioles. I'll stress again that he hasn't signed a contract, according to team officials. They're taking a look at him and could bring him back to the organization on a minor league deal. Anyway, the Red Sox took a 3-1 lead against Wei-Yin Chen in the third inning on Adrian Gonzalez's leadoff single, a Dustin Pedroia double, David Ortiz's RBI grounder and Cody Ross' sacrifice fly. The Orioles tied the game against Jon Lester in the fourth on a leadoff walk to Adam Jones, Matt Wieters' triple to right field and Wilson Betemit's single that extended his hitting streak to nine games. The most runs that the Orioles have scored against Lester is five back in a 2010 game. He gave up three in 3 1/3 innings tonight. You can check out the video of Mark Reynolds' first home run right here. It's worth it to watch manager Buck Showalter's reaction as Reynolds blows past him in the dugout and races to the clubhouse. Judging from the tweets I received, I assumed Reynolds bypassed Showalter and shook hands with everyone else. He actually ignored everybody, for whatever reason. Showalter's response is priceless - and so typical of the manager. Update: Chen gave up another run in the bottom of the fifth on Dustin Pedroia's one-out single that scored Will Middlebrooks, who led off with a double. Chen hadn't allowed more than two earned runs in his first four starts, but he's charged with three tonight. The Orioles have nine quality starts in their last 10 games, but Chen's up to 100 pitches through the fifth and Matt Lindstrom was warming in the bullpen. Chen has surrendered five hits, walked three and struck out four. And here comes Lindstrom to pitch the bottom of the sixth. Update II: The Orioles loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, and Reynolds scored on J.J. Hardy's 4-6-3 double play grounder. Reynolds tapped fists with Showalter as he entered the dugout. They're fine. As a reader pointed out, the Orioles were giving Reynolds the silent treatment after the home run, which explains why the third baseman was grinning as he headed to the plate. And that's probably why he raced down the steps and into the runway that leads to the clubhouse. Reynolds has homered, doubled and walked. Take that, Miggy! Former Oriole Rich Hill got the final out in the seventh while former Oriole Matt Albers warmed in the bullpen. Matt Lindstrom retired the side in order in the sixth, giving him 10 2/3 scoreless innings this season. Pedro Strop has replaced him.
