Still time to vote Oriole Park the "Nicest Place in America"

Oriole Park at Camden Yards has recently been named one of 10 finalists for "Nicest Place in America in 2017" by Reader's Digest. Since Camden Yards opened 25 years ago, it has long since been a welcoming place to visitors. The Baltimore Orioles began the Birdland Community Heroes program in 2016 to honor people from around the Orioles community who have had a positive impact on others, whether it be through their selfless acts of service, teaching, charity or working through various organizations to give back to the community. It is not just these special honorees who go out of their way to improve the Camden Yards experience, it is also the employees, from friendly vendors to the front office staff who work earnestly behind the scenes to establish a welcoming ballpark environment. It is the presence of the Orioles' employees and fans with their welcoming attitudes that truly makes Camden Yards an unforgettable experience. Every weekend game the Orioles play at home this season, an honoree from the Baltimore community hero will be in attendance to receive game tickets, a medal, and an opportunity to be featured on the big screen for an in-game ceremony. Since the "Birdland Community Heroes" program began in the 2016 season, there have been 50 honorees ranging from middle schooler Thomas Moore - who was inspired to grow out his hair to donate to cancer patients - to a bus driver who risked her life to rescue 20 students after the bus caught on fire, to Medal of Honor recipient, University of Maryland graduate Captain Florent Goldberg, who broke up a would-be suicide attempt against his unit, causing him to suffer serious injuries and endure a three-year recovery period. When Orioles outfielder Adam Jones was asked about Moore's donation, he said to reporters, "When you see somebody that young, with that much charisma, passion for life, compassion for others, it's pretty crazy." Moore also met 11-year-old super-fan Mo Gaba, who is currently fighting cancer and lost his eyesight as an infant, but maintains a positive outlook and continues to fight every day.
